Jamie Keena, Balladeer

Jamie Keena is a singer and player of classic American popular music. His Performances on gutar, banjo, hammered dulcimer, fife, and concertina, combined with his colorful costumes, invoke a nostaligic, bygone era. He has catered to the hospitality industry in Savannah, Hilton Head Island, adn the Low Country for fifteen years.

Balladeering %26 Theme Entertainment Offerings

(note - the distinction bewteen balladeering and theme parties is, balladeering is mostly a background, atmospheric entertainment: theme parties are a more center stage, foreground show emphasizing group involvement.)

Southern Gentleman - Our biggest seller, the strolling Southern Gentleman seems to fulfill the Northern guest's expectation that Southern hospitality is incomplete without someone in frock coat and top hat strummin' on the old banjo! Available as a solo, duo, trio, or quartet, singing and playing Southern standards like Oh! Susannah, Old Folks at Home, and (need we say?) Dixie, we think you'll agree that it's the perfect accompaniment to Low Country barbecue or plantation party!

Buccaneers of the Low Country - How do you spell pirates? I offer singing pirates as both a balladeering and a theme party option, depending on how "into" the Pirate theme the client wishes to get! Some groups prefer a light dose, with a solo, duo or trio strolling and singing Pirate band performing for cocktails or dinner. Other clients prefer a more complete immersion into piracy, adn for them we can stage a complete theme dinner, featuring music, dancing, group involvement, and a show!

Wild West - on Hilton Head??!! Available as a balladeering or theme party with solo, duo, trio or quartet, the Wild West show sings and plays the great Cowboy songs like Git Along, L'il Dogies, Red River Valley, and Home on the Range. These are songs that put the Western into Country %26 Western! For the theme party, we can involve the group as much as desired with Country Line Dancing and other options.

The Baron's Feast - a structured theme dinner, a little bit of Medieval feast on Ye Olde Hilton Heade! Costumed performers sing and play music of the Medieval/Renaissance period, and guests are encouraged to participate in the fun! The evening is hosted by the Baron and his Lady, and all are entertained by the antics of the Fool. Different!

Uncle Sam's Musical Revue - a surefire, oft-tested hit with kids and family! The show is emceed by the Singing Uncle Sam, beloved symbol of our Nation, and the guests are encouraged to sing %26 dance along! Sam can be joined by his two adorable costumed children (kids love watching other kids perform) and/or other adult performers. Songs include old American trads like I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy, Daisy Bell and Shine On, Harvest Moon. Perfect for summer picnics and barbecues, we call it a star-spangled smash!

Irish Pub Night - not really balladeering or a theme party, but entertainment such as you'd experience at O'Reilly's or any fine Irish pub. Jamie sings a wide variety of Irish music, from Tin Pan Alley (Who Threw the Overalls?, McNamara's Band, Irish Eyes, etc.) to traditional %26 contemporary Irish fold (Whiskey in the Jar, Molly Malone, Danny Boy, etc.) Songs are acompanied with guitar or banjo, with instrumental performances on the hammered dulcimer, concertina, and tin whistle. Available solo or duo. Erin go Bragh!

Other Costumed Specialties -

Civil War Soldiers (North %26 South)
Civil War or Revolutionary War Fife %26 Drum and Color Guard (great meeting opener)

Come Back To The Islands

That's how you'll feel when you hear the sounds of The Island Trio Steel Drum Band. The Trio has been performing up and down South Carolina's coast for more than six years, frequenting such spots as Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, and many local Charleston venues. This three piece band provides high energy party music that is guaranteed to get everyone out of their seats and moving in a conga line.

The Trio consists of Tim Mathias, a music major from Winthrop, playing authentic steel drums, percussion and vocals. He has been involved in steel drum manufacturing, tuning and sales for over ten years. Chris "the Zorg" Sordelet, guitars and lead vocals, has been performing in the Charleston area since the late seventies in a diversified number of bands. Jay Callahan, bass, guitar, keys and vocals, hails from a strong musical background and provides solid, foundation building, rhythms which enables The Trio to reach their number one goal -- making people happy.

The Island Trio Plays a wide variety of music which expands from traditional calypso, beach, reggae, to good old rock and roll. The band keeps the dance floor packed. From the melodic sounds of Belafonte's Jamaican Farewell, to the party sounds of Buffett's Boat Drinks, The Island Trio focuses on audience participation as their main source of energy. The band spends a lot of time in the audience pumping up the crowd, and the fun and the party begins.

So find your loudest Hawaiian shirt, get yourself a tropical frozen drink, and get ready to enjoy the exciting sounds of The Island Trio. Be Prepared, however, to bend over backwards, because...The Trio comes equipped with a limbo pole and they want to know "HOW LONG CAN YOU GO?"

"Everyone thoroughly enjoyed your high-energy performances"
....Virginia Children's Festival, Norfolk, VA

"...The energy level in the gym had risen by several notches as the entire audience clapped and sang, swayed and laughed to the songs of the leaping, sliding, whirling performer."
...The Georgia Guardian

"Rick is truly a great way to start off a season!"....Kelsey Theatre, Trenton, NJ

"I had heard he was good, but I was not prepared to hear an entire affective education curriculum put to music! It was on self-esteem building, and he touched on peer pressure and conflict resolution. The whole school loved him...."
....Amy Smith-Sklar, Connections (Newsletter of SC School Counselor Association)

"You were fabulous!! Not only did you present four 'top notch' shows but you were patient and professional."
.....Heart of Augusta Festival, Augusta, GA
